Cytogenetic Studies of 26 Patients with Primary Amenorrhea


Abstract
This study was carried out for the purpose of investigating the incidence of the chromosomal abnormality and the cytogenetic characteristics in patients with primary amenorrhea. Chromosomal analyses were performed in 26 patients with primary amenorrhea who were refered to the Cytogenetic Laboratory, Institute of Reproductive Medicine and Population, Seoul National University, for 6 months from January 1989 to June 1989.
The results were presented. Of the 26 patients, 13 cases (50%) were chromosomally normal and 13 cases (50%) showed chromosomal abnormalities including 10 cases (38.5%) of Turner¢¥s syndrome, a cases (3.8%) of 46, XY, a cases (3.8%) of 46, XX, inv (9) and a cases (3.8%) of 46, XX q+. Of 10 patients with Turner¢¥s syndrome, 3 cases (11.5%) had 45, X, 5 cases (19 .2%) had mosaicism of 45, X and 46, X, i (Xq) and 2 cases (7.7%) had mosaicism of 45, X and 46, XX.
